Javier Pérez Aranda
21.11.24 - 8.12.24

Process// ad hoc apertum, sic offers an insight to the practice of Javier Pérez Aranda, reflecting on the transient and modular nature of contemporary culture. Aranda will create a "live" intervention, building on the ongoing project SuperSport #03 that took place in the defunct refrigerator company ΨΥΓΕΙΑ ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ on the 16th of November.

The transfer and immediate continuation of his evolving installation to the [SiC] Space for International Cooperation at Nileos aims to connect with the history of the Thission building, which, before its transformation into today’s white-cube gallery, was also abandoned and dilapidated.

In accordance to the open and collaborative ethos of SuperSport project Aranda allows the audience to witness his creative process throughout his residency - [ SiC] is open when the artist is present.
Fellow artists working with sound to intervene and come into dialogue with the work and contribute to its resonances.

Thursday 5th December:
Andreas Nikoloulias is installing his own soundscape on Thursday 5th of December, built upon a composition of field recordings, weaving ad hoc apertum, sic in the fabric of the neighborhood.

Sunday 8th December:
Karl Heinz Jeron and Jan Matiz are performing live during the finissage on the 8th of December that will celebrate the conclusion of Javier Perez Aranda ad hoc apertum, sic residency.

Concept// ad hoc apertum, sic is marked by the continuous transformation of everyday residues and discarded objects, transported from one space to another. Similarly, the past projects and practices merge into a single form, only to separate again after the closing of the show. By exploring the poetics of collaboration to craft a cohesive aesthetic narrative—defined by diverse media and technical resolutions and resisting overt connections to any social theme seeking validation—the exhibition reflects the automation of urban landscapes.

ad hoc apertum, sic invites the audience into the dialogue between sound, space, and structure, mirroring Athens’ architectural history. The city is depicted as a mutable grid shaped by casual modularity and ad hoc adaptations, evolving without deep-rooted historical reverence and often treating existing structures as ornament, obstacle, or both. Urban space in Athens appears more like a scaffold than a complete city; ad hoc apertum, sic is an extension of this scaffold.

Info// ad hoc apertum, sic @ Nileos 6, Thission from November 21st to December 8th 2024, when the artist is present.

Finissage: 20.00h with Karl Heinz Jeron drone with embellishment. Concert at 21.00h: Jan Matiz' Χρώματα [Colors] with guests (tba)

ad hoc apertum, sic presents the collaboration between Spanish installation artist Javier Pérez Aranda and musician Andreas Nikoloulias, reflecting on the transient and modular nature of contemporary culture. Aranda will create a "live" intervention, building on the ongoing project Super Sport #03 happening in the defunct refrigerator company ΨΥΓΕΙΑ ΨΗΛΟΡΕΙΤΗΣ. The transfer and immediate continuation of his evolving work to the Nileos space aims to connect with the history of the Thission building, which, before its transformation into today’s white-cube gallery, was also abandoned and dilapidated. Nikoloulias contributes to the process with field recordings and compositions, utilizing an ad hoc constellation of speakers as a parallel architecture of sound to complement Aranda's installation.

Javier Perez Aranda works with the abject of production and consumption processes being especially fond of the moments where the two activities are blurred. His living environment is self-generated and self-regulated based on criteria of collection and classification that avoid the capitalist hierarchies of valuation of goods, productive time or leisure. He makes site-specific works, where his own private space manifests itself as an extension of public space, taking the form of large scale arrangements of left over material related to that space and its semantics. Javier Perez Aranda has taught at Parsons School of Design and has been involved in different capacities in art and science research projects. He has made numerous installations in different countries, especially in Spain and Mexico, as well as exhibitions of sculpture and graphic work. Recently he has been working on collective creation projects.
