MARILIA STAGKOURAKI solo exhibition

Within Marilia Stragkouraki's solo exhibition, the audience is invited to step into a realm that plumbs the depths of the human psyche. Collages and found objects serve as conduits to the darkest recesses of existence. Stragkouraki's narrative explores the turmoil of trapped souls and dysfunctional bodies navigating life's void, suffused with an aura of witchcraft, evoking sensations of discomfort, brutality, and despair. The collages reflect struggles against oppressive institutions, a relentless battle against the disciplining of both body and mind. Stragkouraki's seeks to dismantle the disinfected representation of identity, mentally if not physically, offering a glimpse into what truly resonates within our being in the world.

BIO: Marilia Stragkouraki is an interdisciplinary artist with a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Arts and Design and a Bachelor's degree from Athens School of Fine Arts. Her practice spans painting, drawing, performance, and collage, often incorporating mixed media techniques. Focused on themes of power and the human condition, she explores frenetic environments, chaotic spaces, and transgressive elements. Her work confronts the deadened state of contemporary culture, pervasive nihilism, and suffocating atmospheres while delving into issues of identity, society, politics, gender, class, and sexuality. Marilia has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including prestigious venues such as the ICA for "Bloomberg New Contemporaries," Liverpool Biennale, Athens Biennale Anti, Artorama, as well as numerous galleries and museums worldwide.
